Interpreter (Contract Position) Location: Milwaukee Area and Surrounding Counties

Pay Rate: $26.00 per hour
Overview:
The International Institute of Wisconsin is seeking qualified interpreters fluent in Polish, Portuguese, Spanish, Thai/Lao, Vietnamese, Punjabi, and Hindi to join our Interpretation and Translation team. These are contract-based, as-needed positions, with assignments offered based on client demand and interpreter availability throughout the Milwaukee area and surrounding counties.
Key Responsibilities
Provide accurate, professional, and culturally appropriate spoken interpretation in a variety of community settings, including:
● Medical appointments
● School meetings, including parent-teacher conferences
● Social service and case management visits
● Employment orientations and workplace trainings
● USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) interviews
Additional responsibilities include:
● Maintaining strict confidentiality, professionalism, and neutrality in accordance with the Interpreter Code of Ethics
● Communicating promptly with the Interpretation and Translation Coordinator regarding assignment acceptance, scheduling availability, and required reporting
● Arriving on time and prepared for all scheduled assignments
Qualifications
● Full fluency in English and at least one of the following languages required: Portuguese, Spanish, Thai/Lao, Vietnamese, Punjabi, or Hindi
● Reliable transportation to travel to appointments throughout the Milwaukee area and surrounding counties
● Strong understanding of and ability to follow the Interpreter Code of Ethics
● At least one year of professional or volunteer interpretation experience preferred
● Interpreter training, certification, or specialized experience in medical, legal, educational, or human services settings preferred
● Strong communication and interpersonal skills
