Job Description

General Purpose

Under general direction, plans, organizes and coordinates the daily operations, functions, and activities of assigned Sandoval County Community /Senior Center(s). Responsible for meeting established rules, regulations, and laws governing the operation. Plans, coordinates and supervises a variety of recreation programs for youth and senior participants. Monitors and maintains the maintenance and cleanliness of equipment and facilities; and coordinates rental use of the center.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associates Degree in Social Services, Recreation, Business or a related field and three years of experience in program supervision within a community service or recreation program area that includes responsibility for planning and coordinating the day-to-day operations and functions of the assigned program, budget/fiscal administration and monitoring, and public relations/community outreach; and one year of staff supervisory responsibility; preferably in community service programs; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Library knowledge and/or NM Library certification is preferred

Essential Job Functions

  • Plans, coordinates, and evaluates a variety of arts, cultural and recreational programs and events for a Community Center.Programs include senior and children's programs, recreation and skills classes, sports programs, special events, holiday promotions, community activities, and summer programs.
  • Manages a variety of technical issues, including inspection and evaluation of facilities and related assets for compliance with safety and security standards; reviews activity logs, and develops strategies to manage issues identified; prioritizes repair and maintenance requests; manages budgets and expenses.
  • Coordinates the scheduling of recreational activities and rental use of facilities; oversees program and facilities set up for program use in the Center(s) and recreational gym; and, maintains all materials, tools, and equipment in good order.
  • Plans, directs, coordinates, and reviews the work of assigned staff; assigns tasks and coordinates schedules, projects, and programs; provides constructive feedback; reviews and evaluates work and makes effective suggestions and recommendations.
  • Coaches, trains and motivates staff; coordinates and/or provides staff training; and, manages employee relations; manages the workflow and prioritization of projects and measures the performance of the assigned unit/area and all related staff and takes appropriate corrective action when necessary; provides general advice and counsel to staff; develops or assists with developmental work plans for staff; assists with implementation and recommendation of corrective actions, discipline and termination procedures as appropriate/necessary.
  • Promotes volunteer opportunities and programs; recruits volunteers; plans, directs, schedules and coordinates volunteer activities and programs; coordinates and/or provides volunteer training; develops and strives to maintain positive working relationships with program volunteers.
  • Plans, manages, and administers the proper, efficient and required operation of assigned Center(s) ensuring established rules, regulations and laws governing it's operation are met; assures that the facility and grounds are maintained and cleaned on a regular basis including sweeping, mopping, window washing, restrooms and yard maintenance.
  • Assists support staff in the development and configuration of the monthly newsletter, scheduling, trips, activities, outreach, and all information pertaining to Center(s) programs; responds to telephone calls and performs various office/ clerical functions such as typing letters and memos, compiling spreadsheets, filling out forms, and preparing various reports associated with the Center(s) functions and activities.
  • Completes a variety of paperwork; tracks and maintains files; maintains activity, transportation, maintenance, and facilities logs; and maintains both hard copy and electronic files of all required documentation and forms.
  • Ensures proper maintenance of vehicles, fueling and preventive maintenance; tracks and records all vehicle activity on logs; reports any damage to vehicles and scheduling of maintenance for vehicles; and tracks and maintains maintenance records for each vehicle.
  • Participates in various community committees associated with Community Center; attends related meetings and events.
  • Works with respective Manager to ensure required criteria, funding documents, timelines, fiscal inventory and financial responsibilities are met.
  • Makes necessary contact with community residents for information and assistance based on individual needs in accordance to program guidelines', conducts assessments of all clients, ensures all client files and assessments and reassessments are completed and up to date for applicable clients receiving community services.
  • Works with Food Services Manager for administration of food service site/services and ensures Center(s) are compliant with state regulations.
  • Selects, processes, catalogues and classifies library resources if needed.
